I was working at the mall when the screaming started. My first thought was “great, we have some kind of active shooter in the mall.”
So I grimly made my way out of the stock room towards the source of the screams. A traumatized-looking co-worker ran by me.
Right outside the store, in an area near the escalators, a crowd had gathered. I kept walking and as I approached the crowd, they easily parted for me until I found myself at the center.
An unmoving man lay on the ground. I heard someone in the crowd say he had jumped.
Since this was a multi-story mall with open space in the middle, this rang true to me.
A pool of blood emanated from his head, gliding across the smooth mall floors.
I had never seen blood that dark, it told me that there was nothing to do.
