My family visited my uncle in the summer between grade school and high school. For a while, he had a cottage up north and a speedboat before the tax man took them away.
My father and I went out on the speedboat and docked at a wharf outside a lakeside hotel.
We sat down at the outside patio and soon a waiter came by. My dad ordered us each a cola.
The waiter asked my dad if he wanted to charge it to his room. My dad said. “Yes, charge it to room 201.”
Soon after, we finished the cokes, got on the speedboat and slipped away.
I learned that adults tell you one thing but they do the other. They tell you not to lie or steal but that's not really the way it is.
Everyone's always taking small edges. And that's the truth.
More or less.
